Semifinalists at Super Y Nationals in Tampa

(November 24, 2008) Crossfire emerged as the only team to win all three of its games in its GU13 group to make it to the semifinals this pre-Thanksgiving weekend at the USL Super Y-League finals in Tampa, Florida. In its group, Crossfire faced the Cleveland Internationals, Northern Cal Lamorinda United and the Long Island Rough Riders. Defender Amy "AJ" Johnson scored three goals, one in each of the qualifying games, including a winning shot against Lamorinda from about the 50-yard line; Tess Edenholm scored two, and Rachel Shim scored one.
The team faced the CASL Railhawks in the high-speed semifinals today, which tested the sturdy and well-organized Crossfire defense. Both teams created opportunities, but neither was able to capitalize as the score held at 0-0 through 70 minutes of regulation time and two 10-minute overtimes before being decided in PKs. The teams remained tied through the nail-biter ending, until the fifth and final kicks when CASL took the win, 3-2.
A total of 140 teams attended the Super Y-League North American Finals. Twelve teams, representing eight regional divisions in North America, faced off in the GU13 age division.
(December 6, 2008) Update: Crossfire lost to the CASL Railhawks, who went on to win the tournament. Click "continue" below to view some of our favorite photos. Congratulations to Crossfire’s Rachel Shim and Emma Makela who were selected for the Super-Y U13 All-Tournament Team for their play in Tampa. Selections were based off the nominations of opposing coaches made throughout tournament play. Thirty-two players, boys and girls, were selected at U13.

The team won all three games in its bracket to make it to the semi-finals, where Crossfire faced SSFC Crush. The semi-final game went to overtime and to PKs, where Crossfire emerged with the win and a berth in the finals to face Washington Premier. The championship match was the third game of the day for both teams. Washington Premier earned the tournament’s top title with a first-half goal on a corner kick that went unanswered by Crossfire. The results will make for an exciting PDL season-closer in which the two teams are scheduled to face off next weekend.

Far West Regional League - Fall 2008

(October 20, 2008 ) Crossfire’s GU14A Premier came in fourth after a tiebreaker in their B bracket of the 2008 Far West Regional League. The girls broke even overall with 3 wins, 3 losses and a tie. Click here for official results. Just two Washington teams participated in the League at U14: SSFC White and Crossfire Premier ’94. The remaining hailed from California and Las Vegas.
Crossfire hosted one weekend, August 16-17, of league play at the club’s 60 Acres fields in Redmond. The weather cooperated beautifully, and the fields were in pristine shape, making the park a perfect backdrop for the high-level play. Crossfire GU14A parents Tim and Dierdre Johnson organized the event. The two Washington teams faced each other in Redmond; and travelled to Camarillo, California, for the balance of play.
The Washington teams faced each other Oct 5, 2008 at Marymoor, and after a full 70-minute game, the score was 0-0. The score, though, was only half the story. FC Crush came out hard, but all thirteen Crossfire players, who were uninjured and able to play, stepped up to take on their rival. The stats tell the other half of the story, of Crossfire’s command of the pitch, including Crossfire’s 14 shots on frame, three of which slammed into the crossbar, versus 10 shots for Crush. This was a great, fast-paced match, and, as usual with these two teams, was fun to play and fun to watch.
Crossfire Finishes Top in USL's Super-Y League Pacific Northwest U13G
Going to Super-Y North American Finals in Tampa

(September 1, 2008) After playing a total of 13 games in Washington and British Columbia from May through August, 2008, Crossfire took top honors in the USL Super-Y League GU13 Pacific Northwest Division. Crossfire had twelve wins and one loss, scoring a total of thirty-five goals and allowing in only three, to emerge with the most points from Groups A (Washington teams) and B (Canadian teams), and earn a spot in the North American finals held at Ed Radice Park in Tampa, Florida, November 21-25.
One memorable July weekend, from a Thursday through a Sunday, Crossfire girls played five games to win the Crossfire Challenge, then traveled to Canada for two Super-Y matches. Many of the players felt they were moving in slow-motion on spaghetti-noodle legs by the last game, but still managed to go undefeated. Another Super-Y weekend in Canada, previous defender Lindsey "Zee" Ryan played forward and led the team in scoring with seven goals in three games. Needless to say, Zee now counts forward amongst her favored positions.
Best of luck to our girls representing the Pacific Northwest in Tampa this November!

The girls outscored Oregon and New Mexico in their flight to make it to the quarterfinals, where they faced SoCal Blues, the eventual tournament champions.
