2009 Greater Renton FC Winter Classic Summary
January 17-19

Crossfire came out fast against Tynecastle FC 95 and the game was never close with Crossfire winning 3-0.  Next was the former PDL Divison 1 Snohomish United Black.  Crossfire continued their excellent play and won 3-1, with Snohomish getting a late goal to break the shutout.

That same night Crossfire took on the much improved girls from NWN Blue where a win would have put them into the finals.  In the dark, and despite a shutting off the lights on Crossfire's defensive end of the field late in the match, the game ended 0-0 forcing Crossfire to play the MRFC Cosmos and in need of a win or tie to advance to the finals.

But in a match played in fog so thick that the far side of the field was obscured from view and the goals were barely visible from the half-line most of the game, the Cosmos got a goal on a defensive breakdown at the start of the second half and that goal decided the match, with Crossfire losing 1-0, and finishing 1 point out of first.

WPFC White went on to defeat NWN Blue in the final 2-1.

2008 Santa Barbara SC Summer Cup Results
August 23-24, 2008
Crossfire tied the Crescenta Valley SC G95 in a match decided by a bad foul call that resulted in a goal in the first minute, and a beautiful goal to even it up late in the 2nd half by Crossfire.  Crossfire survived a ridiculous attempt by the referee to assist in a goal, that will be remembered by all for a long time.  Crossfire completely and totally dominated play in their second match against SBSC Red, but couldn’t get one in the goal.  Blame it on the awful field we were playing on, or the size of the field that made for a very crowded area in front of the goal, but after 20 or more shots on goal, Crossfire scored on a corner kick to a shot just before the end of regulation to win it 1-0.

In the quarter-final played early the next day, Crossfire played a tough Madrid Premier team and lost 2-0.  The loss left the rest of the day for fun, and the girls spent it at the beach in Santa Barbara and in the pool at one of the local beachfront hotels where one of our families were staying.

2008 Snohomish Bigfoot Results
August 14-17
Crossfire G95 Black came away with their 2nd tournament win of the summer, winning the Snohomish Bigfoot Tournament’s GU13 Gold division.  To a large extent, the extra conditioning this year has really paid off, along with the real boost to the team from the new players picked up this year.

Game 1 on Thursday was against the North Kitsap Blast 95.  The game was played at 8:00 AM, with the grass still wet and the ball a little slippery.  The NK Blast played a tough match, but Crossfire dominated play and ran away with this one 5-0.

Game 2 on Friday, also at 8:00 AM, was against a tougher team the FC Kent Fusion.  Crossfire Black controlled possession and had lots of shots on goal in this one that ended 3-0.

The toughest match of the tournament was against the reigning 2008 Challenge Cup champion GRFC Blue Patriots.  The Patriots are a big and very talented team, and scored first.  Crossfire tied it up and then the Patriots scored again to go up 2-1.  Crossfire came right back to tie it up and 2-2, and then fell behind again 3-2 in the 2nd half.  Crossfire then tied it up and added the winning goal with 5 minutes left to finish undefeated in Group play and move onto to the semi-finals against the 2nd place team from the other group.

The semi-final was against the Bainbridge FC United Blue, and while another big and physical team, Crossfire had an easier time with them and was up 2-0 at half-time.  Bainbridge came out really tough in the 2nd half, with Crossfire seemingly a little surprised at the sudden increase in effort.  Bainbridge would score late in the second half, but Crossfire shut them down and finished the match ahead 2-1.

The Stanwood Camano United Fire were Crossfire’s final hurdle to the championship.  The game was played at 1:30 PM, so it was quite a bit warmer than any of Crossfire’s previous matches.  Crossfire moved ahead 2-0 in the first half and their superior conditioning pretty much decided it from there on.  The Fire were clearly out of gas in the 2nd half, if not for the big punting of their goalie, probably wouldn’t have gotten the ball out of their end.  The final score was 2-0, with Crossfire taking the Snohomish Bigfoot championship for the GU13 Gold division.
2008 Nike Crossfire Challenge - Results
July 12 - 14, 2008
(July 14, 2008) Crossfire G95 Black Schmetzer surprised Eastside FC 95 Red in their first match of the Nike Crossfire Challenge with an upset.  Crossfire scored 7 minutes into the first half on a beautiful pass and left-foot kick passed the diving EFC goalie.  Crossfire then held their one goal lead, in a very even match, for the next 53 minutes to win the match 1-0.

In Crossfire’s 2nd preliminary round match against the Eugene Metro Magic (OR), Crossfire dominated possession, but Eugene got a break and scored to go up 1-0.  Refusing to concede, Crossfire fought back and scored to tie the match at 1-1.  Crossfire then pressed hard to get the go-ahead goal, but couldn’t get it into the net.  The final score was a 1-1 tie against a good Oregon team.

In the final preliminary match, Crossfire played the THUSC Sodium (OR).  The Sodium are the defending Oregon state champions, but Crossfire made them earn their 1-0 victory in a very physical and even match.  Sodium scored about 20 minutes into the 2nd half on an unlucky break, and despite a couple good shots on goal, Crossfire couldn’t get the tying goal.  The final was Sodium 1-0.  Crossfire’s performance prevented the Oregon state champs from advancing to the semi-finals.

For the tournament Crossfire’s awesome defense only gave up 2 goals, while shutting out EFC Red in that victory.  Crossfire didn’t advance to the semi-finals, but made an outstanding showing in perhaps the tournament's toughest bracket.
2008 US Club National Cup VI Regional - Results
July 5-8
(July 9, 2008)  Crossfire G95 Black got off to a slow start against the Washington state champion Emerald City FC Green, giving up 2 goals in the first 10 minutes.  Crossfire stepped it up and played ECFC Green even from that point on, with both teams scoring another goal before it was over.  The final score was 3-1 ECFC Green.

In game 2 against the Oregon State Cup quarter-finalist Eastside United FC Arsenal (OR), Crossfire came out very aggressively from the start and dominated possession and shots on goal.  Crossfire scored the game’s only goal on a perfect corner kick to a header goal late in the first half.  Crossfire held the Arsenal scoreless in their best match of the National Cup Regional.

Crossfire played an enhanced WPFC Black team playing with 6 guest players in the most physical and pounding match of their tournament.  Crossfire played them tough, but WPFC’s size and the game referee’s decision to "let them play" took Crossfire out of their game.  WPFC scored 3 goals before Crossfire got one into the net, with WPFC adding one more in the last minutes to finish on top 4-1.  Perhaps Crossfire Black will have an opportunity to play WPFC without guests in the future to see how they really stack up against this talented team.

WSYSA 2008 Washington State Challenge Cup - Results
January 26 - March 2, 2008
With a tough loss in penalty kicks today in the 2008 Challenge Cup Elimination Round, Crossfire’s season came to an end.  With the clear edge in possession and shots on goal, Crossfire just couldn’t get that go ahead goal into the net in regulation, or two 5-minute overtime periods.  SSFC Red played a tough game of defense and forced PKs to decide the match in their favor.

Great season Crossfire 95 Schmetzer!  You played a great year of soccer against some of the best teams in 3 states.  Thank you for working so hard and giving it your best.

In the end it was the GRFC Patriots beating Harbor FC in PKs to take the 2008 Challenge Cup championship.  Great job Patriots!

2007 California Sun & Surf International Soccer Tournament - Results
August 6, 2007
Crossfire 95 Schmetzer played very well in Long Beach against some very good SoCal teams.  In fact, in their game against the SCVSC Magic, considered by people who know SoCal soccer as inside the top 15 teams in Southern California, Crossfire Schmetzer gave the Magic their only tournament blemish by playing them to a 1-1 tie during bracket play.  It was the only game the Magic didn’t win.  The Magic eventually won the tournament championship, but Crossfire was able to hold them to just a single goal in a tie.
