 2008 Fall Season - Week #11

In week #11, Crossfire Premier Dev White was the away team vs the MVP Marauders Navy and played on the Marauders' home turf of Tahoma Middle School in Ravensdale WA.   For a 10:30 AM game in the middle of November, the weather was amazing - sunny and warm.   Unfortunately, the reception from the Marauders was a bit more chilly.   This was another hard fought battle for our girls.  There was a distinct size and speed difference, but Crossfire held their head high and battled throughout the entire game.  There were bright spots in all areas of the field (Keeper, Denfense, Mid and Forward), but just not consistently enough to keep the game close.  One noteable difference this week was that the girls were starting to make passes and move to the open space, which has been a focus in practice lately.  Looking forward, Coach Marty talked with the girls about some new areas to target this week: defensive positioning and game mechanics (corner kicks for example).     Keep up the great effort girls!

2008 Fall Season - Week #10

Week #10 had us back in our black uniforms as the ’Away’ team vs our Crossfire 97 Gray team counterparts.  While as true U11’s they were a bit bigger, our girls went out there and played hard.  The result of some solid contact was a number of players hitting the turf, and they weren’t always Dev White.  With good team play and some of the best keeper work we’ve seen this year -- the girls kept the game close: an 0-2 score at the end of the first half.  While the second half wasn’t quite as balanced, there were some good examples the girls talking to each other on the field, calling for passes and we did have some good runs at the goal.  A special thanks to Coach Amy and her two young assistants for helping out.

2008 Fall Season - Week #9

Week #9 of the season was round two of Crossfire vs Synergy Zipp with our girls hosting as the home team at Hartman Park.  Considering that this was a 9:00 AM game on the day after Halloween, the girls showed up with smiles and looked ready to take the field (let’s just say they looked more energetic than some of the parents. ).   While Synergy Zipp is a tough/physical team, our Crossfire girls showed that they are scrappy as well.  The impact of the intense practices this week was clearly evident as a number of 4 and 5 pass sequences moved the ball forward.  Tough defense also helped keep the game close for a majority of the first half.  Our Crossfire girls continue to progress both in their individual skills and their team play.   Keep up the great work Crossfire!

2008 Fall Season - Week #8

Week #8 found is traveling to Buckley for an away game vs the Pink Monkeys.   The surface of the highschool field was fast and the weather was absolutely beautiful.   Although we weren’t able to match up on the score board, the girls played hard and there were a number of bright spots that had the Crossfire fans cheering.   The girls were rotating through different positions and it was good to see them have the opportunity to develop new skills.  It sure looks like they’re having a good time out there!  A special thanks to Wendy for taking over the picture duty this week.

2008 Fall Season - Week #7

Week #7 found us enjoying an early morning trip to Lacey for an away game vs the SSFC G97 Red team.  It was cool morning with thick wet grass, which didn’t dampen our girls spirits in the least.  After giving up an early goal, they battled right back to a 1-1 tie at the midway point of the first half.  When SSFC scored their second goal - you could hear the Crossfire girls talking about scoring another one quickly to tie up the game before halftime.  It’s great to know that the girls have that degree of confidence.  While the second half of the game wasn’t nearly as close, you can see the girls progressing as a team.  The 2v1 and 2v2 skills were much improved this weekend.   Well done girls!

2008 Fall Season - Week #6

Week #6 was our second home game in a row at Hartman Park as we hosted the MVP Marauders 97 Navy.  The temperature on the field during warm-ups was a brisk 35 degrees (brrrr), but the sun was shining and our girls dressed for the weather - sporting some pretty stylish caps (see photos).  The field was fast and the ball was a bit slick with the morning dew as both teams went back and forth for the first few minutes.  Once the Marauders found the net, we had a tough time pushing them back to their side of the field.  Our girls scrapped hard and didn’t let the size of the other players stop them from going after the ball.  It looked like our girls gave everything they had running in this game.   Keep up the great effort Crossfire!

2008 Fall Season - Week #5

Week #5 was a home game against the Crossfire Premier GU11 Gray team.  Rain, wind and cooler temperatures didn’t seem to slow the girls down as they competed well over the course of game.  If it wasn’t for some bad luck on a few goal kicks, this game could have could have gone either way.  The girls responded well to a mid-game change of formation and played aggressive at all ends of the field, including some great saves by the three different keepers.  As hard as they played, there still seemed to be some fresh legs at the end of the game.   It looked like they were ready to keep on playing!

2008 Fall Season - Week #4

Week #4 had us traveling back to Auburn Game Farm Park to play Synergy Zipp.   The rainy weather of week #3 was behind us and the girls had a beautiful afternoon to play.  Once agin our girls worked hard against older and often larger opponents. There were a number of great runs and one sequence that really had the parents cheering - as there was a solid shot on goal that was only blocked at the last moment by a Synergy defensive player.  Given that Synergy scored early and built up a sizable lead, it was great to see how our girls never quit playing.

2008 Fall Season - Week #2

Week #2 found us traveling to Auburn for our first away game of the season.  The girls played Synergy Fox (wow did they have some tall girls!) on a beautiful field at the Auburn Game Farm Park.  You could see dramatic improvement in the team this week - specifically in how they handled the positional play around goal kicks.   It’s fun to watch the team improve each week.   Keep up the effort girls!

 2008 Fall Season - Week #1

This was week #1 of the District III 2008 Fall League and also  the first chance for the newly formed Crossfire Premier GD97 Dev White to play as a team.   They put forward a great team effort against a solid team of true U11 girls from Fusion Force.  It’s going to be fun cheering the girls for league play this fall.   Amazing hussle out there Crossfire.

 Chinook Cup

Over the course of a three day tournament in Portland OR, the girls leveraged their improved skills to bring home their first team championship.  They played well as a team and continued to get better and better with each game.   With the minor exception of limited pool time in the hotel , I think it’s fair to say that the girls all had an incredible time.   Check out the victory tunnel photo’s if you want some visual evidence.   Keep up the great work girls!

Marysville Strawberry Classic

This tournament provided the girls an opportunity to pay a number of good teams and they were competitive through the entire weekend.   They showed improvement in holding their shape, defensive positioning and more controlled touches.   While they worked hard and learned a lot, they players might claim that a highlight of the weekend came with the addition a new item to their team uniform - stylish red new Nike caps.

Crossfire Challenge

On a hot weekend, with fairly few subs, the girls gave it their all.    It was fun to watch them progress as a team, playing better and better as the tournament went along.   Most importantly, it looked like the girls were having a great time out there - judging by the smiles in the pictures.

Crossfire Dev Jamboree

The girls had a great time training in some of the first "Hot"  summer weather we’ve had this year.   There was a great mix of fun and technique work and a strong show of team support between all of the girls.   It looked like the candy was a big hit as well!!!

Skagit River Cup

This was the first official tournament of the season and the girls played their typically scrappy style of soccer.   The effort that they put in netted them a win and some excellent game experience against true GU11 teams.    Keep up the great work girls!
