(February 20, 2009) “This marks a banner year for the Crossfire girls’ program,” according to Coach Lombard, who also serves as the club’s Assistant Girls’ Coaching Director. “Crossfire fields two girls’ teams at U18, and 26 players, so far, have formally committed to play in college.” He adds, “We are lucky to have had two teams on the girls’ side at this age, playing at the highest level since U13.” Both teams have played in WSPL Division 1 along with a third Crossfire team playing up a year. In addition Crossfire GU18 Black, coached by Steve Crum, has a significant number of his players committed to colleges.
According to Gary Whitehouse of Varsity Student Institute (VSI), who works closely with Crossfire players, “The boys’ teams have done well this year, too.” In fact, Crossfire fields two teams with players graduating in ‘09: the B90A team coached by Dan Leeming, and the US Soccer Development Academy Boys’ U17/18 team coached by Bernie James. So far, twelve players have formally committed to play at schools including Cal-Poly (San Luis Obispo), Evergreen State, Humboldt State, Seattle Pacific University, University of Denver, University of Nevada – Las Vegas, UW, Wake Forest and Western Washington.
