Shoe drive for the children of Soweto
2010 Exploration Seminar in South Africa & Zambia
|
University of Washington Exploration Seminars is a UW faculty lead global study program. One of the program elements is community outreach. The specific outreach over the last several trips has been a labor investment by the students into a community soccer pitch in the township of Soweto. This year, the program has requested Crossfire's support in a used shoe drive for the children of Soweto and is asking for your help.
If you or your team manager can assist by having your player(s) "clean out their closet" of soccer shoes that they no longer use please let us know. If so, a UW student will work with you to arrange a one-time pickup of used shoes at one of your upcoming practices. Or if you would like to do something more creative here is a recent example in the press from the North Kitsap Herald http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/kitsap/nkh/sports/98072229.html

Here is a list of UW students going to South Africa, with cars. These students have volunteered, and are able to work with you to pick up shoes. Please don't just contact the student at the top of the list as availability to pick up will vary. Evenings and weekends are obviously best for most students.
