Lindsay Elston starts three games with the U.S. U20 National Team
LA MANGA, Spain (March 8, 2011) – After having its first match against Sweden called on the account of lightning and then tying England 0-0, the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team finished the La Manga Ten Nations Tournament on a high note with a 2-0 victory over the Norway U-20 Women’s National Team.
The USA controlled the match out-shooting Norway 14-2 and got an early goal through Alaskan Kelly Cobb. In the 8th minute, U.S. captain Morgan Brian played through ball down the left side to Cobb who took a few touches, cuts inside at the 18-yard box and finished low to the far corner.
The USA sealed the match in the 80th minute through forward Taylor Smith, who had just come into the game four minutes earlier. This time it was Cobb playing the provider as she took the ball down the left wing, beating her defender around the outside to the end line before cutting a pass back to Smith at the near corner of the six -yard box. Taylor finished low to the far post to make it 2-0.
There was no winner in the tournament as each team played three friendly matches. Also participating in the tournament were Scotland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Denmark and Italy. The 18-players chosen for the trip were all born in 1992 and 1993.
The U.S. U-20s are at the beginning of the cycle working towards qualifying for the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup that was awarded Uzbekistan.
