O5 Girls Compete in Sweden

Crossfire’s GU-14 Academy team has ventured to Stockholm, Sweden, to compete in the prestigious Lennart Johansson Academy Trophy.

The group departed Seattle on Monday after sweeping a pair of Development Academy matches versus San Jose Earthquakes and California Thorns on the weekend. Upon arrival, several sightseeing and cultural education activities were on tap, including a boat tour of Stockholm.

After a dominating 10-0 victory in a friendly with IFK Lidingö Girls U14, the team started off the tournament in similar fashion, with two consecutive victories on Friday to take top honors in the group after the first day.

In the first game, Crossfire topped Espoon Palloseura (EPS) from Finland 2-1. In the day’s second game, the girls maintained their momentum with a 1-0 win over Oslo Fotballkrets of Norway, who had beaten Atletico Madrid 1-0 earlier in the day. The win left Crossfire as the only 2-0-0 team in the group after the opening day’s competition.

On Saturday, XF will take on Atletico Madrid and then AIK, one of the biggest clubs in Sweden, to determine their final standing before heading to the knockout stages of the competition.
