Weekly College Roundup – Week 1

In a local matchup between Seattle U and the University of Washington, there were 6 former XF players in the starting lineups. A total of 10 XF alumni featured in the 3-0 victory for UW. Over 1300 fans took to the stands on Sunday evening to watch as Christian Soto-Rincon, Charlie Ostrem and Ethan Bartlow (team captain) went 90 minutes for UW. Former Crossfire Academy players Joey Parish and Cole Grimsby also played, while GK Bryce Logan was an unused substitute. Noe Meza, Declan McGlynn and Hal Uderitz started for Seattle University while James Burkholder and Rory King were unused subs.

Michael Chung started and scored in Brown’s first game of the season vs. Hartford. Sophomore Iakov Shmelov, also a defender, grabbed a goal vs Colorado School of Mines. More goals for defenders as Cayman John had a goal and an assist for St. Martin’s University. Bailey Letherman notched his first points for UNLV with a goal against Omaha and an assist against UC Santa Barbara.

Sophomore Sophie Hirst is second in points for Harvard this season, with three goals and four assists to start the year. Teammate Taylor Nielsen has started five of six games for the Crimson as well. Kelsey Turnbow has 16 points for Santa Clara this season with 5 goals and 6 assists. Lauren Brown has a goal and an assist for Seattle University (4-3-1). Natalie Daub got her first goal of the season for the University of Hawaii vs. University of San Francisco. Mallaika Tomar has 4 points so far with two one-goal games for Columbia against Fordham and St. Josephs.

Kyra Bethune grabbed a goal for Occidental College in their 4-0 rout of University of Saint Katherine. Freshman Katie Duong earned her first career points with an assist in a 1-0 victory
over No. 14 North Carolina State for the first time in program history. Lizzie Iwicki also collected an assist for Claremont McKenna College as they tied UC Santa Cruz 1-1 in California.
