Crossfire Players at Super Y League ODP Camp
Cocoa Beach, FL is the site of the Super Y League (SYL) ODP camps running for a full month starting January 12, 2006. Players from across the nation have been invited to attend the SYL camps and will participate in training sessions, scrimmages, attend lectures and more.
Crossfire Premier will be well represented at this ODP event with numerous players from both the boys and girls sides of the program in attendance. We wish them all a fantastic experience!
Montgomery and Young chosen for Super-Y National ODP Teams
As a result of strong performances at the Super Y National ODP camp in Cocoa Beach, FL, two Crossfire players have been chosen for the 2006 Final ODP Select Teams: Kyle Montgomery, forward for the Crossfire James ’88 squad, and Bradley Young, defender with Sean Henderson’s Crossfire ’87 team, were identified out of a total of 180 players for this honor.
Montgomery’s work up front, scoring and assisting, proved a constant threat to opponents, while Young’s work at the opposite end of the field consistently helped shut down attacks.
Between January 13 -16, top youth players from around the country underwent four days of intensive training and matches to compete for spots on the respective national teams in the BU15, BU16, and BU17 age groups. These teams are selected on the basis of an “all-star” pool of 36 players, which are divided into two squads that play against each other the last day of training. A final group of 18 is then chosen from this pool.
As stated by USL, the camp as a whole is specifically designed to “identify players for US National Team programs,” with selections to the final 18 performed by the USL ODP Technical Staff as well as US Soccer National Staff. Players chosen will be recommended to US Soccer Youth National Team Staff, and may be involved in future domestic and international events.
In 2005, Crossfire player Ellis McLoughlin was identified in this system and has since moved on to residency with the U17 Men’s National Team (1990s) in Bradenton, FL.
Three more National ODP Camps remain. The U13 and U14 Boys will begin on January 26, and the Girls National ODP Camps will be held the first two weekends in February.
