Ellis McLoughlin scores for USA in U-17 final
10/15/2006 Nicolas Mazzola scored in stoppage time to give host Argentina a 2-1 victory over the USA Friday night in the final of the Torneo Internacional Sub-17 in San Luis.
Ellis McLoughlin (Crossfire Premier) scored to give the USA a 1-0 lead it carried late into the second half before surrendering two goals in the final 20 minutes.
Playmaking star Brian Sarmiento set up both Argentine goals. He fed Maximiliano Oliva for the tying goal in the 74th minute. The winner came after Sarmiento had his brilliant individual effort cleared off the line by Kofi Sarkodie, and Mazzola pounced on an errant clearance.
The game was the third for the Americans on their month-long tour of Uruguay and Argentina. The team heads to Rosario, where it will remain for the duration of the tour. It will play several matches against club teams, in addition to its final international on Oct. 25 against Paraguay.
