Chinook Cup Seniors - Tigard OR
Crossfire Premier 93 Schilperoort Champions

The Crossfire 93 Schilperoort team competed in the Chinook Cup Seniors in Tigard, Oregon last weekend (June 2-3), bringing home a Championship.  In preparation for Regionals, the girls were ‘playing up’, so this was a challenging tournament and the girls were prepped to play a demanding series of games.  In reality, the tournament mixed ’91 and ’92 years into the GU15 division and the ’93 Crossfire team played several teams that were two-years up!  The teams were competitive and physical, and several of the teams had substantial size advantage.  Nevertheless, the girls never gave up and worked to move the ball quickly and with confidence.

The team played five games in two days (3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday).  With the temperatures pushing up into the mid-high 80’s, it was perfect training for Regionals.  Total goals scored for - 15; total goals against - 5.  The most exciting game was the Semi-final played Sunday morning against an Oregon team - the Bridlemile Daredevils.  The game went into two overtime periods and penalty kicks for the 3 to 2 win.  Although there were many girls who contributed to the tournament win - in this game the keeper, Julia Chusid, saved the day!  She denied TWO PKs enabling the team to move forward to the final game and ultimately the tournament GU15 Championship!

The Final game ended up being a grueling, hot match that demonstrated the huge heart the team has.  After scoring a header goal off a great corner kick, the team held on for the win despite strong offensive attacks from the Columbia Timbers.  All in all, a great experience and preparation for the next competitive challenge!
