
(June 2007) Crossfire’s own Soccer Club President, Brian Klein, was recently one of several people appointed as a Select Director to the U.S. Soccer Foundation at a recent Board Meeting. The US Soccer Foundation was established in 1995 to manage the surplus funds generated by the 1994 FIFA World Cup held in the United States. Under the guidance of its Board of Directors, the Foundation has taken a leading role in supporting the continuous development of the sport at all levels. Over $45 million in grants, financial support and loans have been made to help develop coaches, players and referees, especially those in economically disadvantaged urban areas.
Also appointed as Select Directors were Clara Apodaca of Albuquerque, N.M., and Marla Messing of Los Angeles, Calif.. Clara Apodaca and Brian Klein will serve three year terms while Marla Messing will fill the remaining two years of a term. Officers elected at the board meeting where U.S. Soccer Foundation Chairman Brad Hays, Vice-Chairman Kevin Payne, Treasurer Charles Marshall and Secretary Ed Roster-Simeon were re-elected as U.S. Soccer Foundation officers. Officers serve one-year terms.
