Living Hope - South African Donation
How a little help can go so far ...
Dear Crossfire, Thank you so much for your donation of tournament shirts. While in Cape Town, South Africa, we encountered incredible levels of poverty including a township of a million people located on the Cape Flats. We worked in a township called Overcome Heights where we were with kids providing a week of Kids Club activities. Through a group called Living Hope your tournament shirts will be used for an upcoming township challenge between children and youth. Having the black and white shirts was perfect even though the sizes were large the kids will love it. To read the complete letter please click here
Building a Champion:
On The Sidelines With Crossfire Premier's Dick McCormick
By Brian Beaky, Editor, E-Play On! Over the past three years, he’s won five state titles and a Region IV Championship. In his 12 years coaching youth soccer in the state of Washington, he’s won eight state championships, two Region IV crowns and a National Championship.
What’s more, he’s been successful from the first whistle — the loose-knit team of 10-year-old girls that he assembled in 2002 went 41-2-1 in that first year, with eight of those players making up the core of the team that won State and Region IV titles in 2009 en route to a berth at the National Championships... (Aug 3, 2009) GU14 US Club National Champions At 8:00am ET today, Crossfire Premier G94A played in the finals of the US Club National Cup against the Chicago Fire. Since the beginning of the season G94A has remained undefeated. This record was tested by the Chicago Fire as they were the first team Crossfire G94A met at the National Cup. A narrow loss of 0-1 to the Fire did not dim the spirit of G94A as they battled through the tournament to the Final game. Waiting for them was the formidable Chicago Fire again. Soccer Saves Teenagers in Africa
Three Crossfire players take time out to help
 |
|
To our Soccer community,
We have volunteered to support a new nonprofit organization called Soccer Saves (www.soccersaves.org). Soccer Saves was co-founded by Cliff McCrath and their mission is to help teenagers in Africa make healthy lifestyle choices. Soccer Saves and Save the Children are doing their first pilot program in Ethiopia … you can learn more about it at www.soccersaves.org.
Our reason for writing to you is that we want to help get the word out about Soccer Saves and ask for your help in raising money for the Soccer Saves programs in Africa. Here are three ways you can help.
1. Buy tickets to the Sounders games vs. Chelsea and Barcelona. Each ticket costs $75 ($40 for the ticket plus a $35 donation to Soccer Saves).
2. Register for the Soccer Saves Golf Classic and Roast the Nub Benefit Dinner at Newcastle – July 20, 2009
3. Sign up for a special VIP Chelsea practice viewing at Qwest Field on July 17. This is your chance to get an up close look at Chelsea players with a good chance of photos and autographs after the practice.
Thanks for your support,
Kate Bennett (Crossfire GU17 McCormick), Louis Schott (Crossfire Academy BU16 James) and DeAndre Yedlin (Crossfire BU17 Henderson)
P.S. If you want to do volunteer work for Soccer Saves, you can sign up on the Soccer Saves website.

Crossfire's UCLA-bound Kelyn Rowe leaps over HS

DEAN RUTZ/ The Seattle Times
|
(February 3, 2009) Read Crossfire Premier’s Kelyn Rowe’s story about why this talented soccer player decided to not play for his high school soccer and instead play for the Crossfire Academy team. Kelyn’s team competes nationally in the US Developmental Academy which is the most competitive league in the US and run by US Soccer. It has also become the feeder system for the US National teams, NCAA recruiting, and professional scouts. Unlike most of the country, local boy’s high school soccer is played in the spring which directly conflicts with the USDDA league. Kelyn is coached by Bernie James, who was chosen by US Soccer and his peers as the Coach of the Year in the Western Conference of the USSDA U18 Group. Read More...

How does a kid from small-town Iowa end up playing soccer in Seattle with the Crossfire Academy?
|
(February 9, 2009) Drew Russell was born in Bedford, Texas on December 28, 1990 - and adopted 5 days later by Brad and Amy Russell on Jan 2, 1991. He was born 2 months premature and weighed less than a sack of sugar (weighing 4 lbs.). At four years old, Drew began playing soccer, because it was the only sport that the Park and Rec Dept. would allow 4 yr. olds to play. By this time, the Russell’s had 4 children under age 4! Soon after, the family moved back to the Midwest to raise their growing family in Mt. Vernon, Iowa in 1996. ...
