Two teams are typically formed in each age group, with both teams formed equally. In 2007, Crossfire Select expanded to cover U11 to U18 age groups and includes 27 teams.
The Crossfire Select program is designed for the player that wants a more competitive experience than recreational soccer and/or for the multiple sport athlete wanting to play more than solely soccer during the year.
Tryouts for Crossfire Select are usually held in April. Practice begins in June. Regional Tournaments are throughout the summer with season play September through December. Most teams play in District III, so away games are typically in King, Kitsap and Pierce Counties. Home games and practices are at held at local fields. Teams have the option of playing in post season state tournaments between January and March. Most Crossfire Select teams participate.
Since Crossfire Select coaches are parents or volunteers, the program does not have coaching fees, as does Crossfire Premier. During the season costs associated with this program include two sets of Nike uniforms (home and away), warm ups, field rentals (practice and game), tournament entry fees, and travel expenses with some overnight travel.
